Mdonya Old River Camp Game Viewing and Activities
Ruaha National Park consists of an area of about 12,950 square kilometers and is the second largest National Park in Tanzania. The lifeline of the Park is the watershed between the Nzombe and Ruaha rivers, with its spectacular escarpment above which are large stretches of miombo woodland. Ruaha National Park offers an abundance of wildlife, bird and plant species with about 1,650 plant species and over 450 bird species. Ruaha is known for its large elephant and buffalo herds and one of the highlights include being able to see greater and lesser kudu as well as the majestic sable and roan antelope within the same area. Plenty of predators can be seen in the park including lion, leopard and cheetah and it is also home to the increasingly rare African Hunting Dog. Ruaha offers good game viewing all year round. The South West area of Tanzania where Ruaha is situated offers the lowest rainfall in the country. June to November is driest with the emphasis of wildlife viewing around the river courses and permanent waterholes.
