Kigelia Camp
Kigelia offers six large luxury tents which enable guests to enjoy a refined, authentic camping experience in Ruaha National Park. A temporarily open camp, Kigelia offers luxurious accommodation in a wilderness-rich environment.
Kigelia Camp Highlights
Kigelia is a small discreet camp secluded in a grove of Kigelia Africana or 'Sausage' trees. The backdrop of a Baobab forest, rocky hills and the Great Ruaha River makes the camp incomparable. Kigelia operates in a socially and environmentally responsible way, placing a minimal footprint in these precious areas of natural beauty. Some fascinating sightings can be enjoyed straight from the comfort of the tents, with game frequently wandering through and elephants often coming to feed on the vegetation and tap the dry riverbed for water.
- Set on Ifuguru Sand River.
- Can be booked individually, or the whole camp can be hired out exclusively for eight people or more.
- 529 bird species recorded.
- It is open from 1st June through 31st March.
Kigelia Camp Game Viewing and Activities
The Ruaha National Park boasts a spectacular array of animals and birds, so activities at Kigelia Camp include game viewing by either vehicle or on foot. Guests are accompanied by expert guides at all times, who have many years of experience and have a deep knowledge of Ruaha. Game drives include bush breakfasts, picnic lunches or sundowner drinks. Elephants, zebra, impalas and giraffes are abundant. Both the greater and lesser kudu can be seen, as well as the magnificent eland, sable and roan antelope. Ruaha has an abundance of predators, the lion population is very healthy and it's common to see a pride with twenty or more members. The African wild dog also occurs in the park, although their huge ranges make them more difficult to find. Hyena and jackal are common camp visitors and are often heard after dark.
