Arijiju
Arijiju lies in the Borana Conservancy, a sprawling private game reserve in Laikipia that stretches from Mount Kenya to the equator and up to the semi-desert plains in the north. The Borana Conservancy serves as an important wildlife corridor connecting Mount Kenya to the northern wildernesses. It is the last refuge for Kenya's critically endangered black rhino.
With three suites in the main house and two large cottages along a stone road, Arijiju's architecture takes from the Kenyan practise of combining rooms to host multi-generations. All have luxurious copper bathrooms, outdoor showers, and large arched windows, while open fireplaces and slouchy, wrinkled bedding harken back to old-world safari. A constellation suite on the roof provides unrestricted views of the night sky. The open fires in the expansive, light-filled living and dining rooms are complemented by opulent chandeliers. The views beyond are framed by iconic arched windows. A large olive tree gives natural shade next to the cantilevered pool, which is suspended over the Sieku valley and supplied by the well.
