Riverbend Lodge Game Viewing and Activities
The area is home to the big five and game drives traverse the Addo or are conducted in the lodges' 5000 hectare Private Intsomi Reserve. This reserve is only accessible through Riverbend Lodge. Guided walks are also offered within the boundaries of the Intsomi Reserve; where guides will draw your attention to the smaller creatures and plants that often go unnoticed. Join one of the professional guides on a night drive and search for some of the indigenous nocturnal species that prowl at night. The vast open skies offer magnificent stellar and planet gazing. Rangers are highly knowledgeable in astronomy and offer interesting talks on night drives. River Bend Lodge guides are all trained in bird watching and special birding trips can be arranged when making your reservation. The area boasts over 300 species of birds, from the elusive Narina Trogon, Knysna Touraco, Blue Cranes and the soaring Black Eagle. Guided tours to the rehabilitation projects in the River Bend Private Intsomi Reserve allow guests to learn about how the wildlife is cared for. There are currently wild dog and serval breeding projects. Special tracking courses are held for young adventurers during the school holidays in April, July and September. Here, youngsters will spend time learning the secrets of the African bush.
