Tsumkwe town is classified as the capital village of the former Bushmanland. It is fairly "advanced" for this very low-key region of Namibia and has a Primary and Secondary school with a few Rural Government Officials and houses. A small petrol station and a general dealer signify the centre of town, which is situated on the crossroads leading to the Khaudum National Park, Dobe Border Post and Tsumkwe Country Lodge. The lodge is situated 2km south of the petrol station and is the ideal base from which to explore the Nyae Nyae Conservancy and Khaudum National Park, with the abundant birdlife after the rainy season and herds of Springbok, Wildebeest and occasional Oryx and Elephant.

Guests may also enjoy a cultural influence with a visit to the traditional San village under the guidance of Tsumkwe’s knowledgeable Bushman guide. Learn, first-hand, how the Bushmen track animal “spoor” (prints) to hunt game, how they skilfully craft weapons and gather edible and medicinal plants in the wild. Guests are invited to embark on half and full-day tours to the Nyae Nyae Pan with the possibility of spotting plains game and interesting birdlife before settling under a shady tree for a picnic lunch. Take the opportunity to visit the “Hollow Tree”, which is one of the largest baobab trees in the world, while enjoying an ice cold beverage beneath its giant branches. Full-day excursions into Khaudum National Park is a fantastic trip for 4x4 self-drivers who are up for rough-terrain adventure.
