Mopiri Camp
Mopiri Camp is a classic tented camp positioned on an island near the base of the Okavango Panhandle and is the ideal base from which to explore the northwestern waterways of the Delta with fishing, birding, and fly-camp trips.
Mopiri Camp Introduction
Mopiri, which translates to “little island” enjoys a superior location near the base of the Okavango Panhandle on the northwestern edges of the Delta. The tree-filled island provides ample shade and invites a cacophony of birdsong to life at this tented camp. There are seven spacious tented suites connected via raised wooden walkways to a large main lodge area, all of it elevated to get the best view through the trees onto the Weboro Lagoon. Three family units are located on a separate island and have a private swimming pool. This is a destination for keen fishermen, fly-campers, walking enthusiasts, and bird-watchers.
- Mopiri Camp is entirely water-orientated, and during the flood season, access to the camp is limited to boat transfers, while activities focus on mokoro, boating, fishing, and walking.
- The tented suites each sleep two people (family units sleep four) in comfort with simple decor including the essentials, but not the frills. En suite bathrooms are connected via a boardwalk and every element makes use of the lagoon views.
- The main lodge has a swimming pool positioned to look onto the floodplains, while hidden seating areas are dotted around the deck, and the island boma hosts traditional nights around the fire.
Mopiri Camp Game Viewing and Activities
The activities at Mopiri Camp are diverse and focus on exploring the Delta islands and lagoons by foot and on the water. This is definitely an option for bird enthusiasts and photographers, as well as fishermen looking for excursions to catch tiger fish, pike, and bream. Daily activities are conducted from the island and include relaxing and enchanting mokoro cruises, sundowners on the double-story barge, dinner on the surrounding islands, and guided walking safaris on numerous islands. Fly camping is one of Mopiri’s most exciting options offering adventurous guests the chance to indulge in all sorts of activities during the day while a fly camp is set up on a beautiful island ready to receive guests at the end of the day. Three course meals under the stars and discussions with expert local guides are part and parcel of this experience, whether at the lodge or the fly camp.
