Chitabe Camp is an excellent luxury camp located in the southern part of the Okavango Delta. The camp is in area renowned for some of the best wild dog sightings in Africa. This camp should definately be considered on any itinerary to Botswana.
Chitabe Camp Introduction
Chitabe Camp is situated on a beautiful island in a 28 000 hectare picturesque reserve next to the Moremi Game Reserve. Chitabe Camp is in a perfect position to explore the vast floodplains and papyrus lined waterways as well as the open grasslands and riverine forest areas of the Okavango Delta. This area is well known for its huge density of animals and birds, particularly the predators!
The camp has 8 Meru style tents with twin beds, en suite facilities and 2 showers! One inside and one outside amid the views from your tent. All tents are built on elevated wooden decks, with interconnecting walkways, all among the trees. The common areas of the lounge, pub and dining room area also on raised decks making the most of the superb views across the flood plains. There is also a splash pool for a dip in the heat of the day

Chitabe Camp Game Viewing and Activities
The area around Chitabe is a unique area that harbours a massive variety of habitats within close proximity giving rise to a surprising diversity of species. The mix of Okavango and Kalahari makes for an excellent home to an abundant array of herbivores: giraffe, buffalo, red lechwe, tsessebe, impala and elephant, which in turn support the larger predators: lion, leopard, spotted hyaena, cheetah and wild dog.The birdlife is excellent and varies throughout the year, depending on water levels and season. They include African hawk-eagle, ground hornbill, scarlet-chested sunbird, red-billed hornbill, gabar goshawk and red-billed francolin.
Game drives reveal the rich wildlife of the area from predators to prey. Our open 4x4 vehicles accommodate a maximum of seven guests allowing each a ‘window’ seat. Afternoon to evening drives provide opportunities for you to see nocturnal mammals such as civet, genet and bushbabies, as well as owls and perhaps leopard. Walking safaris (dependant on qualified guide availability) with skilled guides offers you the exciting opportunity of coming across big game on foot as well as observing the smaller things you miss when travelling by vehicle.
