Ivory Lodge Highlights
Ivory Lodge is situated outside the Hwange National Park on a private concession of 6,000 squared acres. It is easily accessible for both 4×4 vehicles as well as standard road vehicles. Ivory is only 180km from Victoria Falls and the Hwange airport is 10 km away; however this airport only allows small light charter aircrafts to land. Ivory Lodge offers our guests a chance to relax and unwind amidst the tranquillity of nature. The concession is home to a plethora of wildlife and guests have the chance to see a variety of notable plains game including elephant and buffalo. These two species, amongst many others, are known to wander up to Ivory's waterhole, often with herds up to and above 300-strong, and spend time drinking and bathing to guests' delight.
- After dinner, guests retire to the firepit, where a blazing log fire is kept roaring.
- Game drives, night drives, walks and bird watching expeditions are all available
- Local tours and sightseeing trips to the nearby village.
- The Pan is floodlit at night when animals are most active, making for superb viewing from the lodge.
Ivory Lodge Game Viewing and Activities
Guests have the opportunity to spot some of the finest species of carnivore that Hwange has to offer including lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and hyena to name a few. These can be seen on game drives and sometimes around camp or at the waterhole. This waterhole is seen clearly from each individual lodge, the swimming pool, bar, library, dining room and main relaxing area. Notably, Ivory lodge is in the key home range of the Presidential Elephant Herd made famous by Alan Elliot in the 1980s. This clan of semi-habituated elephants are known well by our guides and can be seen from a very close range if our guests are requesting a specific elephant experience. The camp hosts a range of activities including morning and evening game drives (the very best times to view animals), visits to the Painted Dog Conservancy, local village tours, walking safaris (on request), vulture restaurant viewings and game counts (also on request).
