Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge Highlights
Chilo Gorge Tented Camp is a piece of pristine wilderness, seasonally open during the dry season in Gonarezhou National Park, from April to November. There are four spacious, Meru-style tents positioned on the banks of the Runde River, each equipped with an en suite, open-air bathroom, including bucket shower and eco-friendly short-drop toilet. The serene and vastly unchartered wilderness surrounds this small and intimate camp, where the simple pleasures are enjoyed and nature is truly appreciated. Dine under the stars, sleep comfortably, eat well, and absorb some sensational game viewing by vehicle and on foot.
- Basic, seasonal, tented camp on the banks of the Runde River that disappears during the wet season to let nature take its course, making it an eco-friendly, ideally located comfortable camp for only 8 people at a time.
- Each tent has twin beds, clothes hanging space, and luggage rack; an en suite open-air bathroom, and a private verandah and seating area.
- There is a dining area, which is set up under the stars for the perfect al fresco dining experiences at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A bar and seating area is set up under large, shaded trees, and a canvas gazebo is set up when it rains.
- Game viewing experiences begin at camp where superb sightings of waterbuck, buffalo, kudu, African wild dog, hippo, and nyala are enjoyed regularly. An expert guide will conduct daily safari activities that explore the area in great detail.
Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge Game Viewing and Activities
Gonarezhou National Park is perhaps Zimbabwe’s most unexplored wildlife territory, making it one of the most exclusive safari experiences one can enjoy in Africa. Located in the south of the country, way off the popular tourism route, it is quiet and serene, and full of undisturbed natural sights. The Chilo Gorge Tented Camp safari experience involves both game drives and walking safaris in the region, conducted by a private, professional guide. Natural pans and rivers offer spectacular birding opportunities, while lion, hyena, leopard, cheetah, and wild dog make this a predators paradise, and of course the great herds of elephants will astonish. Full day or half day safaris to Chilojo Cliffs, Tembwahata and Machanu Pans, the northern and southern banks of the Runde, or the Runde/Save confluence.
