The Bush House Game Viewing and Activities
Guests to Madikwe are promised the chance of seeing the Big Five (the largest elephant population outside of Kruger, both black and white rhino, the biggest disease free herd of buffalo in the country, lion and leopard), as well as the rare and endangered wild dog, cheetah, brown and spotted hyena and all other predators. A multitude of plains game includes giraffe, zebra, springbok and sable, the first scientific discovery of which was in 1836 in this very area. Madikwe is a birder's paradise with the latest official bird list boasting an incredible 400 species. The species diversity of trees, grasses and wild flowers is also very wide and interesting. Qualified rangers will enjoy sharing their knowledge of the bush, birds and wildlife with guests. There is an electric game fence encompassing about 10 hectares around the lodge. They have left the bush in its natural state and created a nature trail for guests to walk in the bush on their own, in complete safety. With over 400 bird species in Madikwe Game Reserve, this is the ideal birding opportunity. For the more adventurous, the rangers are qualified to take guests on Bush Walks in the reserve, observing the wildlife and even the Big Five on foot.
