Lake Bogoria, close to the lodge, is home to thousands of flamingos as well as many species of birds. Guests are able to see a variety of wildlife, including the rare greater kudu, impala, zebra, grants gazelle and warthog to name a few. The lake is also known as an important birding area. Lake Baringo offers beautiful sunsets, a variety of bird life, and the Njemps fishermen continuing their lifestyle for the past 200 years. Lake Baringo is also a Ramsar site, which is recognised internationally as an important wetland.

Activities at Samatian Island Lodge include community involvement opportunities where guests can get involved with teaching at a local primary school, nurturing local people at a hospital or help local women do beadwork and tailoring. Fishing for Tilapia and cat-fish on the shores around the island can be great fun especially for guests who have never fished before. Scenic flights by helicopter to the northern Rift – Cradle of Mankind is an adventurous experience for guests as the Great Rift Valley is one of the most dramatic features on Earth. Canoeing is known as a popular activity for guests to take part in as well as wake boarding and boat trips in the lodge’s well-built Sesse Canoes. For the more relaxed activities, guests can enjoy a massage and bird watching.
