Karangoma Camp
Karangoma is the outcome of a collaboration with local elder Olatotse Sarefo and is based on Bukakhwe San and Hambukushu tradition. This small, exclusive camp in the picturesque Okavango Delta provides opportunities for absolutely unique wildlife viewing and connection with nature.
The six spacious tents (including a family room) are situated on a wooded peninsula jutting out into an Okavango floodplain and overlooking a well-trodden wildlife route to the river. A bedroom and lounge (stylishly designed in a modern take on the textures, colours, and patterns of the famed Hambukushu basketry of the northern Okavango), as well as an adjacent bathroom and indoor and outdoor showers, optimise their views of the floodplain. The lounge and dining facilities also have vast views across the floodplain to the water, with a nearby fire pit and plunge pool rounding off the public spaces. While the tents are placed on low wooden platforms (during high flood years), the interconnecting routes across camp are entirely on the ground, snaking through croton and mopane to make our guests feel connected to the landscape.
- Opening May 2024
- Tented accommodation
- Breath-taking views
- The ultimate traditional safari experience
Karangoma's location, which overlaps both the Okavango Delta's floodplains and the sandveld forests to the north, allows for a wide range of wildlife viewing and other activities. The mainstay is game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, which allow guests to observe Africa's captivating huge creatures like as elephants and lions in close proximity while being safe and comfortable, whether during the day or at night. Guests can also enjoy nature walks throughout the region, following animal trails, and taking opportunistic refreshing dips in the Okavango River. These same waters dependent on the time of year allow for boating or silently traverse shallower water in Mokoros in search of some magical bird life.
