Dinaka
Hugging the northern border of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Dinaka Camp occupies private territory in this seasonally transformative semi-desert where black-maned lion and cheetah thrive. Luxury Kalahari accommodation perfectly located to link to the Delta and Chobe.
Dinaka Introduction
Dinaka Camp opened in 2017 in style, adding a superior accommodation option for Botswana’s unique Kalahari desert safari experience. The design throughout the seven cooly thatched rooms and the main lodge emulates the tones of the Kalahari sands and textures of the changing bushveld. Spacious and contemporary with pale wood finishes, woven mats, beaded chandeliers, and crisp linens, Dinaka is soothing for the soul. The rooms are raised on wooden platforms and overlook a waterhole which is visited by unique, desert-adapted wildlife and birds, and there are numerous comfortable lounge areas in which to relax with a refreshment while enjoying the sounds and sights of exclusive Kalahari surroundings.
- Dinaka is ideally located to connect to itineraries exploring the northern Delta waterways, Chobe National Park, and Makgadikgadi, completing the Botswana wildlife experience.
- Of the seven luxury rooms, which are tented with thatched roofs, one is a family unit with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. All are en-suite with indoor and outdoor showers and views of the permanent waterhole.
- Most unique and exciting of all is the sleep-out deck, which offers a comfortable night’s sleep on an elevated deck under the exceptionally stellar sky.
- The main lodge is extensive with a dining table under thatch and an outdoor deck for alfresco dinners under the stars. A sparkling pool offers relief from the summer heat.
Dinaka Game Viewing and Activities
The Kalahari is a semi-desert, which is drought-stricken for most of the year until it receives annual summer rains and transforms into restorative, green bush. The wildlife adapted to living in this harsh environment is different to anywhere else in Botswana, and views from Dinaka Camp and out on game drive include special sightings like oryx, springbok, eland, ostrich, cheetah, black-maned lion, kori bustard, pale-chanting goshawk, honey badgers, and bat-eared foxes. The permanent waterhole in front of camp is an incredible attraction and the strategically placed underground hide gives guests and passionate photographers a fantastic vantage point. Game drives, including night drives, explore the wilderness area and invite close animal encounters, nature walks look at the details through the eyes of the local Bushmen, and sundowners and sleep outs on a viewing tower just invite guests to take it all in.
