Somalisa Expeditions Camp
Hiding under a canopy of acacia trees in a private concession in Hwange National Park is the authentic Somalisa Expeditions Camp. The camp is designed to emulate that traditional mobile camp atmosphere, but is more “grounded” and offers a sense of simple luxury.
Accommodation is in 6 expansive tents built on wooden platforms with decks. The main area is a beautiful open Bedouin tent with luxury finishings, a bar and safari dining section. Most nights are spent around the boma area under the star spangled sky, while days are spent exploring on foot or on game drives. Languid summer days can be spent around the poolside, which overlooks a thriving waterhole. Somalisa Expeditions Camp is reflective of a style associated with ancient explorers.

- Elephants come into camp to drink water from the pool
- A reinvention of a class camp, with a mobile camp atmosphere
- The “authentic” sister camp to Somalisa Camp
- Located on the fringe of a seasonal floodplain
- Proper wilderness experience, on the ground and close to wildlife
- Activities include walking safaris, cultural visits, game drives, and bird watching
- Located in Zimbabwe’s most loved and popular national park
- Dense populations of a variety of wildlife including lion, leopard, and hyena
The high-traffic waterhole in front of camps draws in a wealth of wildlife, especially elephants and predators. The surrounding area boasts large populations of African wildcat, wild dog, honey badger, lion, leopard, and sable. These species are frequently spotted while out on game drive with experienced guides. The varied landscape of the 150 square kilometre concession comprises a mix of acacia woodlands, palm-filled islands, and teak tree groves. The area is best explored on foot during one of the many walking safaris on offer at Somalisa.
