
Shawa Luangwa Camp

Located on the banks of the Luangwa River, Shawa Luangwa Camp comprises just 5 elegant canvas tents built on raised wooden platforms. South Luangwa Valley is prolific with predator activity and is a well-known birding destination. The vegetation is dry savannah and riparian foliage lining the fertile banks of the Luangwa River : a perfect habitat for game to thrive. Leopards are notoriously elusive and one of the most difficult cats to spot on safari. But on Shawa Luangwa Camp’s concession, it’s common to spot leopards while out on drive or bush walk. In addition, lions, African wild dogs, elephants, leopard, hippo, and buffalo are in abundance. Game drives take place in two game-rich areas that require a river crossing to access. Boating safaris provide a fantastic way to spot crocodiles, hippos, and the rare Pel’s fishing-owl. While on out walking safari with experienced and knowledgeable guides, guests will notice dense populations of beautiful carmine bee-eaters.
