Chikunto Safari Lodge
Located less than an hour’s drive from Mfuwe Gate in South Luangwa National Park, Chikunto is positioned right on the banks of the Luangwa River. Out in the open, there is nothing blocking the staggering views and wildlife activity seen from the lodge.
Chikunto Safari Lodge Highlights
This is an intimate lodge accommodating only 12 people at a time in four luxury doubles and one family unit sleeping four people. The highlight of Chikunto is its positioning on the banks of the Luangwa River, which is frequently visited by wild animals, and the elevated construction of the main guest living spaces and each of the five luxury tents. Comfortable yet stylish decor and furnishings keep the emphasis on the outdoors, linking the sights, sounds, and smells of the wilderness to each area of the lodge. Chikunto opened in April 2018 and is a superb addition to South Luangwa.

Chikunto Safari Lodge Game Viewing and Activities
South Luangwa National Park is known as a hotspot for big cats on the southern African safari circuit. Leopards and lions are sighted in fantastic settings as they patrol their territories. Spotted hyenas call into the night, competing with the lions for the title of “best safari audio”. Hippos jostle in the river in front of camp, and elephants and buffalo are always on the move for water. South Luangwa is also the birthplace of walking safaris and is a spectacular place to explore on foot. Chikunto offers guided, interpretive walks in the area surrounding the camp, or there is an option to drive out to somewhere remote before disembarking the vehicle and starting a safari on foot. From February to April Chikunto makes use of the high water levels to enjoy boating excursions during the green season when birdlife is at its best.
