Tarangire River Camp
Tarangire River Camp is set within 25000 hectares of concession area. Included on the land is a branch of the Tarangire River itself, which the camp overlooks. The property is in a great location for game viewing only 3.5km from the main entrance to the Park.
Tarangire River Camp Highlights
The location of the camp offers the splendour of the Great Rift Valley, stunning views over Lake Manyara, Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, and easy access to the Ngorongoro Highlands. Both the dining and lounge areas are married into a proper bon-fire area and game viewing deck that also overlook the same stunning views. A smaller, secondary game viewing deck rises above the ceiling and offers a high, intimate perch above it all. The lodge’s small, informal gift shop offers the families of the nearby Maasai villages a chance to sell some of their handmade wares.
Tarangire River Camp is famous for it's huge herds of elephant; ancient matriarchs, feisty young bulls, and tiny, stumbling calves are ever present to fascinate visitors with their grace, intelligence and majesty.
- Tarangire River Camp is open all year round and offers plentiful game viewing experiences in all seasons.
- Ideally placed to explore the ecosystems of both Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Parks
- The camp is also ideally placed for watching the migration of the wildebeest, which on the tree-less plains can be more easily and more graphically observed than elsewhere.
Tarangire River Camp Game Viewing and Activities
Tarangire National Park is noted for its elephant population and spectacular baobabs of every shape and colour. Wildlife in the area includes buffalo, lion, cheetah, leopard and huge herds of elephant, frequenting the camp's water hole. The Tarangire National Park is also synonymous with two of the rarer game species; the greater kudu and the Fringe-eared Oryx. Due to the low volume of traffic in the park, the game is wild, being unaccustomed to vehicles, this offers a truly unique experience.
Activities at Tarangire River Camp include game drives, guided walking safaris, birding watching on the shores of Lake Manyara, and cultural safaris visiting the Maasai and Datoga peoples whose bomas populate adjacent land.
