Kijani House
Kijani House is beautifully fitted out with antiques or handmade replicas of the furniture, laterns, ornaments and utensils that once filled the stately houses of Lamus past. The restaurant serves fresh fish and farm produce.
Kijani House Highlights
Kijani House is a small, exclusive hotel overlooking the entrance to the Shela Channel on Lamu Island on the Kenyan coast. Kijani's rooms and gardens boast antiques or handmade replicas of the furniture, lanterns, ornaments, and utensils that once filled the stately houses of Lamu's past. It offers the atmosphere of a traditional Swahili house; Kijani's rooms and central areas offer space and privacy.
- The rooms are separate, traditional Swahili buildings which formerly were private homes, made of coral walls, with boriti ceilings and makuti roofs.
- Located directly at the sea front with two fresh water swimming pools, and tropical gardens extending for 3000 sq. metres.
- Lamu Cultural Festival (25th-27th November 2011), is a three day affair showcasing dances, handicraft and competitive donkey and dhow races, as well as, Swahilli poetry exhibitions.
Kijani House Activities
A variety of activities are available for guests staying at Kijani House; including, a visit to Lamu Museum or Lamu Fort, snorkelling, an overnight trip to Pate Island, a visit to Takwa ruins, Shela Village, Matondoni Village as well as scuba diving can be arranged.
