Nokanyana Camp
Nokanyana opened its doors in 2018 as new family-friendly luxury tented accommodation in the Khwai Concession bordering Moremi Game Reserve where the presence of wildlife is abundant all year round.
Nokanyana Camp Introduction
Nokanyana means “little river”, which speaks to its prime location on the banks of the Khwai River, overlooking the confluence of the Khwai and Mababe Rivers. This element brings wildlife right into view of the seven standard tents and three family units which have been built for optimal game viewing and river-watching pleasure. Khwai is one of the most sought after wildlife areas in Botswana and enjoys the presence of wildlife all year round. Nokanyana occupies a special place within the private concession and works closely with the local community and conservation groups to protect and sustain the precious flora and fauna.
- Like its sister camp, Mopiri, which is located in the deep waters of the Okavango Delta, Nokanyana caters well for families with children in tow. Of the total 10 tented suites, three are family units.
- Seven standard and three family rooms are built using as a combination of canvas and conventional materials to create an appealing luxury tented look.
- En suite bathrooms have both indoor and outdoor showers, which are spacious and refreshing, while the rooms are built along the river and between the trees to keep them shaded while looking out onto the water.
- The main lodge houses a dining room, lounge, and bar, all decorated subtly with local, woven baskets and artwork.
Nokanyana Camp Game Viewing and Activities
The location of Nokanyana means that one needn’t go far to enjoy the local wildlife. The game viewing starts on the doorstep as the lodge opens onto the Khwai River where elephant, buffalo, waterbuck, lion, hyena, kudu, and hundreds more species gather to drink. Daily game drives explore the floodplains between the lagoons and venture into the Kalahari sands, demonstrating the versatility of this great wilderness area. Some of the special sightings to be enjoyed at Nokanyana include roan antelope, ground hornbill, African wild dog, and leopard among others. Guided walking safaris and nature walks are offered to alternate with game drives for those who want to explore the area on foot and learn a thing or two from the expert local guides. There is always the chance to encounter some of Khwai’s big game species on foot too!
