Brett is our Founder and Managing Director. Originally from Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa, after University he spent 10 years working in Finance in the United Kingdom and Ireland and travelled around the world. He returned to South Africa and settled in Cape Town where Sun Safaris is now based. Brett manages the business and pays particular attention to ensuring that the Sun Safaris consultants are well informed on the properties and destinations that they recommend to guests.
Why I Love Going on Safari
I love wildlife in general and in particular the Big Cats. I am fascinated by lion pride dynamics! I love the feeling of arriving at a safari lodge or camp, taking off my watch and enjoying the peace and tranquility of the bush. I love the fact that you can go on a 3-day safari yet it feels like you have been away for more than 2 weeks. I also love the chats and whiskeys after dinner around the camp fire!
My Best Sightings
My best sighting was in the Timbavati in the Kruger, we came across two lionesses at dusk. As they started to move we realized that they were hunting and we managed to stay with them during the entire successful hunt of an impala. We watched the stalk, ambush and then finally the kill. It was exhilarating and one of the most exciting things I have ever witnessed. Another memorable sighting happened at Africa on Foot. I was chatting to the guides in the bar when all of a sudden, we heard the distinct blaring of a buffalo. Immediately one of the guides said that the lions had caught a buffalo. We quickly woke up the guests, hopped onto the game viewer and not even 50m from camp was a pride of lions in the process of bringing down a buffalo
