Days 1 to 2 - Le Pavillon de L'Emyrne , Antananarivo
Upon arrival at Ivato airport in Madagascar's capital, Antananarivo, guests will be transferred by road to their overnight accommodation. Built in the 1930's and masterfully restored, Le Pavillon de L’Emyrne is a charming guesthouse perfectly positioned in Antananarivo's old town atop the Royal Hill. It maintains an element of history and blends perfectly into the town surroundings.
During the short time guests will spend in Antananarivo, they can enjoy exploring Madagascar's capital and indulge in some great eating and retail therapy, as there are several excellent restaurants and shops in the neighbourhood.
Days 2 to 6 - Mandrare River Camp , Ifotaka
After breakfast in Antananarivo, guests will be driven back to the airport from where they will take a short, 2 hour flight to Fort Dauphin - a charming town on the south-eastern coast of Madagascar. From here, guests take a 3 hour road transfer to their beautiful camp on the Mandrare River, where they will spend the following 4 nights.
Only 3km outside the little village of Ifotaka, Mandrare River Camp is nestled under a shaded grove of indigenous trees, a stone's throw away from a lovely sandy beach, and opposite the sacred ancestral Ifotaka forests with burial tombs and a variety of endemic flora and fauna species. Some of the activity options include a trip to the giant sand dunes of Lake Anony, watching the sun set at the Baobabs, night walks in the spiny forest, watching various species of lemurs and birds, watching traditional dancers, and a visit to the village or local school.
Days 6 to 11 - Manafiafy Beach Lodge , Manafiafy
On the 6th morning in Madagascar, guests enjoy their last breakfast overlooking the Mandrare River before setting off by road, back to Fort Dauphin, arriving in time for a relaxing lunch. Afterwards, continuing onwards through exotic fruit plantations to the ocean coast and Manafiafy. Situated on a beautiful white sandy bay, fringed with forest covered mountains, is Manafiafy Beach Lodge, offering laid back luxury with both rainforest and ocean nearby.
Forest walks are the order of the day in this area of Madagascar and those accessible from Manafiafy take guests into “Littoral” rainforests – shady, dense vegetation with a high degree of humidity and housing several species of teh famous lemurs, as well as reptiles, spiders, birds, insects and orchids. Guests can enjoy a variety of activities, from canoeing in the mangroves, birding boat trips to the wetlands, snorkelling, and whale-watching (from June to December).
Day 11 - Depart back to Ivato Airport
On the last morning, guests will be driven back to Fort Dauphin from where they will take a scheduled air transfer to Antananarivo. Guests will then connect with their international flight to OR Tambo airport in South Africa in time for their onward travel arrangements.
